Everything you need to know about the domain

What is a domain name? Who manages domain names?

Every computer connected to the Internet has a network address, called IP address, to exchange data with other computers (emails, web pages, etc.).
These IP addresses are composed of several digits. These are hardly memorable, we then create the domain.
Originally the domain names were allocated free by the Internic (international organization). They were mainly attributed to the universities and some businesses connected to the network. These awards were distributed in very small numbers.
But with the opening of the public network, Internic was no longer able to manage the influx of applications for domain names. They therefore decided to delegate this task to a business organization: the Network Solutions, responsible for selling and registering international domain names (. Com,. Net,. Org) and assisted by national authorities in charge of domain names nationals (. com for example is managed by AFNIC).

ICANN is the body that controls all extensions. The opening of any new extension is subject to its approval.
However, ICANN delegates the management of each extension to an organization called the register.
The records are in charge of determining how to award (eg for the AFNIC. Com) and facilitate the commercialization of the extensions through a network of authorized distributors: Registrars called registrars . The records are purely technical.
Only registrars accredited by ICANN has the right to sell domain names.
