What is colocation or the Housing

Services collocation server or server housing are those who require complete control of the configuration of their server.
Collocation is a service in which a company will connect a server you have on the internet. If you do not, some companies offer to build a server for you. This is the main difference between dedicated servers and servers colou. In a dedicated server is itself in the web hosting company while in a colocation, the server is yours.

How does colocation?

Two types of costs are associated with servers colou, rental fees and connection fees:.

1. Rental fees - These are the costs associated with the actual possession of your server located in the center donated the web hosting company. Variant D'1U shelf full, this measure corresponds to the height of the hosted server. The configurations of most servers are either 1U or 2U. Servers with a large number of hard drives can achieve 3U or 4U.
2. The connection charges - Instead of measuring the total number of gigabytes transferred per month, is the connection average is usually used. So a 1Mbps connection / s is an average of 1 megabyte per second transfer during a whole month. To do more complicated, two other aspects to consider.

First, consider how this transfer is measured. Simply take the amount of bandwidth used in a given month, then divide by the number of seconds of this month and you will achieve results through them. However, a system called the 95th percentile is much more popular. It is a system which measures the bandwidth is taken every 5 minutes. At the end of the month, 5% of the best measures are excluded and only the highest remaining are billed to the user.

This brings us to the second point connections burstable. During that allows an average of 1Mbps / s, you can suddenly throw you into a transfer rate higher. With a system like 95th percentile, you have to make sure you do not need burster your connection often.

Once you've told your server to another company, you should bear in mind other factors:

* The installation - it is important to know where your server is physically located.
* Physical infrastructure - Natural disasters can occur and certainly occur. It is up to you to ensure your server and the data it contains remains are kept safe.
* Security / Access - As you allow anyone to enter your server, beware there allow access only to persons who are authorized.
* The All-bandwidth Internet connections are not on an equal footing.
* IPs - If you want to use options such as anonymous FTP (Anonymous FTP) server names or private game servers, having multiple IPs become important. Should check how many IPs hosting is able to provide and at what price.
* Support options-This is important regardless of the type of accommodation. Make sure the people who work with your server are both expert and helpful.
* The costs of cross-connection - is the most elaborate feature. Sometimes you can actually physically co-rent a server with your accommodation, while the Internet connection is provided by another property. These additional fees are called cross-connection fees.
* Guarantees uptime-Being a key aspect in virtual hosting, it is extremely important to ensure that your accommodations have guarantees about the performance of your connection.
* The Contract - What appears in small print is always important. It is noted that included the terms of service, uptime guarantees and the contract period.
